1/1/2024 0 Comments Happy feet mumble in glassThese techniques made it possible to conceive of Happy Feet as a musical, where the moves of some of the greatest dancers in the world – notably tapper Savion Glover – could be digitally captured and rendered onto the penguins. He was also impressed by the advances in digital motion capture technology developed by Peter Jackson’s company Weta Digital, for the Lord of the Rings films. Miller was amazed and moved by the story of how the Emperor penguins breed, which he saw in David Attenborough’s BBC series Life in the Freezer, made in 1993. There were a number of direct inspirations for the film. Miller sees the growth in digital effects as the greatest change in film technology since the coming of sound and Happy Feet set out to take that technology further than any film had done before. All of the film, except for a few shots of humans, was generated in computers. There are obvious similarities in the overall shape of the story – a pig that wants to herd sheep, a penguin that wants to dance – but Happy Feet leaps much more wholeheartedly into the digital possibilities of computer animation. Happy Feet is much more than an extension of the winning formula that George Miller discovered with Babe. Mumble will see many amazing things before he returns to his home. A fat Rockhopper penguin called Lovelace (also voiced by Robin Williams), who’s slowly being strangled by a plastic tie around his neck, joins their quest. He is adopted by five fun-loving Argentinian Adelie penguins, led by the pint-sized Ramon (voiced by Robin Williams), who teach him how to party. He has heard a rumour from the large and frightening Boss Skua (voiced by Anthony LaPaglia) that aliens inhabit the earth. His mother Norma Jean (voiced by Nicole Kidman) is heartbroken.Ī dejected Mumble leaves the colony, determined to find out why the fish are disappearing. Worse, Mumble (voiced by Elijah Wood) is banished by the elders, who think his dancing is responsible for their shortage of fish. He knows he can dance better than any penguin alive, but as his father Memphis (voiced by Hugh Jackman) tells him, dancing ‘just ain’t penguin’. His friend Gloria (voiced by Brittany Murphy) has a glorious voice, but Mumble can never hope to attract a mate without a ‘heart song’, the personal tune that all Emperor penguins must have. Name-calling and infrequent, mild sexual comments are contained in the script.Īn animal is embarrassed after he makes a mistake in front of others and wets himself.Mumble is the only Emperor penguin chick in Antarctica who can’t sing. An implied but highly veiled homosexual relationship is depicted. Characters endure a harsh winter storm.Ī character tries to seduce another animal’s wife. A brief, veiled comment suggests the intent to commit suicide. Two characters nearly plunge to their death afterįalling over a cliff. A character talks about the sounds of the death throes. A bird is afraid after he sees chickens roasting in an oven. A bird is caught in an oil spill.Ĭharacters are trapped in an icy enclosure. Why is Happy Feet Two rated PG? Happy Feet Two is rated PG by the MPAA for some rude humor and mild peril.Ī melting ice shelf falls into the ocean causing a large tsunami-like wave. And some moments of veiled sexual innuendo take place between several characters including a bird that makes moves on another man’s wife. In the natural order of things, hungry predators also chase animals that are lower on the food chain. Some brief moments of peril occur when several characters fall over cliffs, including a father seal that plummets down into a deep crevasse leaving his two little pups on the bank above. However when changing environmental conditions cause an ice shelf to slip and capture a colony of Emperor Penguins inside a snowy trap, the young chick determines that flying is their only way out. While his father and the rest of the waddle of penguins look like they’ve just come off an MTV video shoot, Erik can’t catch a beat with his feet.īut after meeting the mighty flying Sven (Hank Azaria) whom he believes is a fellow penguin, Erik determines his dream is to soar through the air-a difficult feat for a flightless aquatic species. Yet just as Mumble lacked the knack for singing in the movie Happy Feet, his son Erik (Ava Acres) doesn’t have a forte for fancy footwork. Mumble (Elijah Wood) the penguin is all grown up with a son of his own.

The architectural background is a faithful copy of a coloured plate from the Description de l’Egypte showing the small temple at Deir el Medineh. While in the final painting, Caesar, still sitting but in a more tonic attitude makes a gesture of astonishment with his left hand. Our oil study also shows Cleopatra standing and Caesar immobile, in the same position as in the drawing. Another drawing of the composition shows Cleopatra standing, elegant and unsurpassed, in front of Caesar who in astonishment remains glued to his seat. An initial oil sketch also repeats this arrangement. A similar drawing, with some of the background architecture traced with a ruler, was presented by the Galerie Paul Prouté in 1987. In the initial sketch, a drawing at the Musée Georges Garret à Vesoul, Gérôme shows us Caesar in full length, rushing to lift Cleopatra who was still on the ground. To date, two oil studies (including our painting) are known, as well as three preparatory compositional drawings and two figure studies, one of Cleopatra’s head and the other, of her friend Apollodorus. Finally refused on delivery, the painting was then bought by the painter’s father-in-law, Adolphe Goupil. This painting was commissioned by the Marquise de Païva, one of the most famous courtesans of the time, for the luxurious house she had just built on the Champs-Elysées. Caesar was captivated by the daring, conversation and charm of the young queen. To reach Caesar unnoticed, Cleopatra crept into a package of carpets and asked her friend Apollodorus the Sicilian to carry her to him. The young eighteen year-old queen, driven from her palace by her brothers’ intrigues, had decided to convince Caesar to restore her to the throne. It depicts the romanticized version of the first encounter between Caesar and Cleopatra according to Plutarch’s tale. Our painting prepares the Caesar and Cleopatra painted by Gérôme in 1866. Thanks to the accuracy provided by his precise technique, they contribute a stamp of authenticity to the fantasy of the Orient. In addition his depictions of Oriental subjects are faithful to the Orientalist vision of his age, where sensuality and violence are combined. Gérôme’s many Orientalist paintings reveal his fascination for Arabic architecture. The development of photography allowed him to create a study collection of views. Fascinated by the Orient, he journeyed to the Middle East in 1862, 1868, 1871, 18, visiting Constantinople and Asia Minor in 18. In 1847, Gérôme enjoyed great success at the Salon with his Neo-Grecian painting Young Greeks Attending a Cockfight, also called A Cockfight (Paris, Musée d’Orsay), which earned him a third class medal, heralding the many honours of his future career.įrom 1853 Gérôme travelled frequently and in 1856 he discovered Egypt. He completed his training with a trip to Italy before attending the studio of Charles Gleyre, a major figure of academic art. Considered for a long time to be a reactionary, his reputation was restored by the pioneer work of Gerald Ackerman during the 1970s and 1980s.Īt the age of sixteen, Gérôme entered the studio of the painter Paul Delaroche then at the height of his fame, whose principles would have a lasting effect on the young artist. A Professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Gérôme, was fiercely opposed to the Impressionists and became a symbol of academicism. Jean-Léon Gérôme is one of the most famous French painters of his time. The authenticity of our painting has been confirmed by Gerald Ackermann. Catalogue raisonné mis à jour, Paris, 2000, p. Shortly after buying our Landmark 5th wheel, we purchased two WEN 56000i 2000 Watt Generators to replace our power source when not hooked up to electric until we could get our solar system. With a little research, planning and saving our pennies, we’ve achieved our objective of being free from dependency. We decided to make our boondocking less stressful by making a few purchases and doing our own installations and modifications to make our excursions a little more enjoyable and easier. The best boondocking though in every sense of the word is planting ourselves out there on BLM land. It’s about being independent and our RVs being self contained.Īnyone can boondock anywhere that is legal and/or where permission is granted whether it be in a friend or family’s driveway (Moochdocking), working on a farm (Farmdocking), or Walmart or business parking lot (Lot Docking’). water, electricity, sewer, etc.) also known as FHU’s or ‘full hookups’. It’s living without being tethered to utilities (i.e. In RV and Camping society, similarly, “Boondocking” is another word for living off the grid or dry camping or dispersed camping. Laying back in our zero gravity chairs in the desert or near a mountain stream never felt so good!Īccording to the Oxford English Dictionary, the phrase ‘the boondocks’ is derived from the tagalog word ‘bundock’ which means mountain… It was our own “Little House on the Prairie”. We got back to our roots playing board games, hiking, exploring…just opening the door and experiencing the true essence of life. We LOVED it! We have grown to love SIMPLE LIVING! We found we didn’t need television or electronics as our sources of entertainment. Simply put we learned how to be self-sufficient and independent. Those who have never boondocked would likely think we were learning how to survive the apocalypse….and yes, we think we would! We’ve become proficient at off-the-grid meal planning, cooking without electric appliances, loading enough stores and provisions, monitoring our propane, solar power and generator usage. Now a year later, we’ve become those seasoned boondockers mastering important things like water conservation, electricity management, and the unpleasantries of sewage disposal. We watched, learned and networked taking mental notes of how seasoned boondockers became successful at it. After meeting the crowd, we planted our ratty looking camp chairs at several presentations and campfires sipping cocktails while listening to others share their off-grid camping and boondocking tips, know-hows, experiences, and stories. Others rolled in after us most likely for the same reason. We arrived halfway through the convergence, so we had to take a spot a few washes (flood trenches in the desert) up from the action. Ha! This was our ticket out of our own version of Hotel California. While we were there at the park, we were surfing social media to see that the Escapees “Xscapers” (“Xscapers is a support network geared toward a new generation of RVers who have not yet retired and who have already, or are aspiring to, hit the road pursuing a full-time RV living or part-time nomadic lifestyle.”) were having their Quartzsite Convergence right down the road from us. So, we decided to limp back to a RV resort-ish park in Yuma to collect our thoughts, fill up our water tank, empty our gray and black tanks and try again. We really needed to go to a RV Boondocking School, if there was such a thing. We didn’t get much sleep because we didn’t have the safety net that RV parks provide. We ran out of simple essentials because we didn’t plan. We couldn’t toast our bread in the toaster. Our Keurig wouldn’t power up on batteries. It was freeing…of EVERYTHING! Not a care in the world to interrupt the very peace and quiet we were looking for.īUT, we were very new at it and there were lessons quickly learned…hard lessons. It was just us in the desert with the closest RV being about 200 or so yards away. We were on our own pilgrimage to find that perfect quiet place to call home for awhile on Bureau of Land Management. No more loud televisions and bustling cars. No more slide-to-slide neighbors passing us the Grey Poupon. Gone were the safety nets of park or campground security, coded gates, camp hosts, and utility hookups. At the beginning of 2017 – our third year on the road – we experienced our very first boondocking quest in Quartzsite and Yuma, Arizona. 1/1/2024 0 Comments Iron maiden golden years^ "Top 40 Official Albums Chart UK Archive 14 April 1990".^ "Top 40 Official Singles Chart UK Archive 13 September 1986".^ "Watch Adrian Smith and Richie Kotzen perform Iron Maiden's Wasted Years at their debut Smith/Kotzen gig".Archived from the original on 14 August 2012. Opto isolators using field-effect transistors as sensors are rare, Opto FET’s turn on without injecting switching charge in the output circuit and it would be useful in the sample and hold circuits. In order to achieve the maximum speed of phototransistor, it must be properly biased and loaded. Phototransistors are slower than photodiodes, it is the earliest type and they are not quick. These types of optoisolators can be used to interface analog signals. Energy is created with the help of an external high impedance path. In the absence of external bias, the diode converts the energy of light into electrical energy by charging its terminals to a voltage of up to 0.7V. This mode of operation is called a photoconductive mode. Diode won’t generate energy itself, it modulates the flow of energy from an external source. By using an external voltage source the photodiode is reverse biased and the incoming light increases the reverse current flowing through the diode. These type of optoisolator uses LEDs as a source of light and silicon photodiode as sensors. Source of light and a sensor is present in a slotted optical switch and its optical channel is open which allows the modulation of light by external objects which obstructs the path of light or reflects the light into the sensor. Photodiode optoisolator is used in an Opto coupled solid-state relay and it drives a power switch. LEDs can sense light and can also emit it. The sensor which is used could be a photoresistor, photodiode, or a phototransistor. A photosensor and an optical channel can detect the light and can generate the electrical energy directly or it can modulate the electric current which flows from an external power supply. Optoisolator has a source of light, which is almost always a near-infrared light-emitting diode that can convert the electrical input signals into light. The two major important elements needed for an optoisolator is light emitter and a light detector. How does optocoupler or optoisolator work Mostly optical isolators are used to prevent the high voltage or rapidly changing voltages on one side of the circuit from damaging a component or distorting transmission on the other side. Most of the machine controlling equipment generates induced noise that may cause malfunctions with the help of optocouplers we can isolate this noise in the input signals. Opto-isolators can withstand input to output voltages up-to 10KV and voltages transients with speed up to 10KV. It can prevent high voltages or rapidly changing voltages damaging the components by isolating the overvoltage signals. Opto-isolator is also known as an optical isolator, or optocoupler, it is a device that transfers an electric signal or voltage from one circuit to another by using the light, while it isolates the two circuits from each other. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Listening ears awardIn a fun way, you can incorporate these skills into your session, in the classroom, as homework, or at home.
